INTERIM DIRECTOR OF NURSING
Dr. Aagard served as the interim head of nursing at a small rural hospital in Fremont, Nebraska. During her interim tenure she developed and implemented new staffing ratios based on patient acuity and staff competencies. She was part of the team responsible for the completion and opening of the new emergency department. In addition, she oversaw the development and implementation of the Joint Camp program. Dr. Aagard led the interview team to hire the new Director of Nursing, which ended her tenure successfully ten months after it began.
ICU MANAGEMENT MENTORING
Bugando Hospital opened a new Intensive Care Unit in June, 2004. Sister Viola, the Matron (head of nursing) was mentoring Mr. Faru, the Ward-in-charge of ICU on the management of the ICU. We provided support and mentoring to the Matron in this endeavor. As a component of this project, it was crucial to understand some of the nuances of the patriarchal society. Mr. Faru had difficulty in accepting suggestions, recommendations and direction from the Matron as a female, therefore, we were asked to reinforce her position and her recommendations. MCA, Inc. also provided recommendations for further training for Mr. Faru in intensive care nursing and management.

"Because Dr. Aagard has worked in Intensive Care, I can talk with her and she can understand my needs and interpret them to others,"
Mr. Faru, Ward-in-charge, ICU.
