LEADERSHIP EDUCATION PROFILES
Bangalore, India
Leadership education courses have been conducted with the leadership team of Manipal Hospital over the last year. Manipal Hospital is a private 650 bed hospital in Bangalore India. Manipal Hospital specializes in cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, oncology and now bone marrow transplant.
The leadership courses were tailored to meet the requested topics from the nursing leadership team. The format included presentations, as well as interactive dialogue comparing Western and Indian understanding and practice of nursing leadership. Role play scenarios demonstrated the differences that were noted.

"The discussion and demonstration of non-verbal communication was really good. It helped me understand how important it is to see how we use our non-verbal language,"
Thangam, Ward-in-Charge.
Mwanza, Tanzania
Bugando Hospital in Mwanza, Tanzania is a large teaching hospital specializing in vesico-vaginal fistula surgery, orthopedics and burn treatment. Leadership courses were held with the nursing leadership group over one week with various participants. Presentations were conducted using handouts and blackboard for visual aides. The same content was presented to small groups to promote questions and interaction with the participants. The post-presentation discussions focused on the difference in management and leadership as defined in the U.S.

"We learn a lot about management in school, but do not talk about leadership. Until the presentation I understood that they were “the same. I think that in Tanzania there is a difference too, but we do not teach about it,"
Sister Viola, Matron.
